MINISTRIES
first steps

Below are four areas that we feel are very important if you make Southside your church home:

1. Get Saved

This is the first step to growth. It means recognizing that you are a sinner and that your sin separates you from God and the life He has for you. In order to become right with himself, God sent his own son, Jesus Christ, to fill the gap by dying on the cross as a sacrifice for our sin. The Bible promises salvation and a new life to all who believe in Jesus and repent from their sin. Find out more here.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NASB)
Jesus said to him,
I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
(John 14:6 NASB)

2. Get Baptized

Baptism along with communion are ways to demonstrate the new life you have in Christ Jesus. It is important to make a public declaration of your commitment to Christ so that people can encourage you in your walk, as following Christ is a journey. This public declaration is much like the act of a church wedding in which the congregation is asked to support the couple in their new marriage. Southside offers baptisms as the need arises. To find out when the next one will be, check out the Event Calendar.

Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name. (Acts 22:16 NASB)
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Galatians 3:27 NASB)

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15 NASB)
So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching. (Romans 12:5-7 NASB)

4. Join A Sunday School Class (Small Group)

It is easy to get lost in a church our size, so Sunday School classes - also known as small groups - are a place to encourage and challege each other. A small group is an open setting Bible study where people fellowship, pray and study God's Word. Strong friendships from small groups can support and encourage you on a deeper level. For more information about our present Sunday School classes, go here.

Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11 NASB)
And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. (Ecclesiastes 4:12 NASB)
