Where do you call "home"?
South Point, OH which is a little town on the Ohio River. The name comes from the fact that it is the most southern tip of the state. I lived there until I graduated from high school in 1980.

How did you meet your spouse?
Wendy and I met at an ice cream social at Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. I got her telephone number from one of her friends and the rest is history.

How did you prepare for your calling to ministry?
First there was a lot of prayer. I am a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a degree in Business Administration. I felt the Lord’s call to vocational ministry during High School. But it wasn’t until I was finishing up my college degree that I knew I was also being called to attend seminary. I graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree.

What are you reading now?
I generally work through several books at the same time as opposed to reading one at a time. I am currently in the midst of reading through the Bible in a translation that I have never read before. I am also reading through In the Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis, The Bathroom LOL Book compiled by Jack Kreismer and Answers to Prayer by George Mueller. Most days I also read a devotional from Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening.

What’s playing on your ipod or car stereo right now?
I generally like contemporary Christian music (like Chris Tomlin) but lately I find myself listening to more teaching than music on WMIT.

What do you do for fun or to unwind?
I enjoy reading a book or eating a good meal with family or friends. But when I need to unwind nothing seems to do the trick like a long walk in the woods.

Describe one of the best moments of your life.
I have had lots of great moments in my life like the births of my 4 children and getting married to Wendy. But a very personal event took place in July of 1984. I completed a 3700 mile transcontinental bicycle ride. It felt great to walk down to the Pacific Ocean after almost two months of riding west.

What’s your favorite thing about life in Mooresville?
I love the small town atmosphere and the variety of shops and restaurants but most of all I like the people I have met here.

What’s your favorite thing about Southside Baptist Church?
The people! They are wonderful. I feel like I already have so many friends here. And I am still a new member myself.
